Worzel the Rabbit

Worzel was named after a scarecrow from my childhood. His fur was brindle like straw and summer grass. . He was my companion and saving grace throughout my early boarding school years.

Family

Worzel was my rabbit, he was my companion. My younger sister knew him the best, but they didn’t like each other. She would play cindy dolls and he didn’t like that and would chase the dolls and try to bite her!
There were many holidays where I would struggle to find someone to take Worzel as I couldn’t bring him on the plane back to whichever home I lived in. Phylidda simmonds and her mother would look after him on many an occasion. Maybe Nolly Marsden? My father built his cages for him out of army crates and drift wood

Origin

Worzel was born from the great lineage of English country rabbit. His coat was brindle like all wild hares and rabbits- best for blending in the fields in the autumn light.
Warrens are the multi tunneled homes of rabbits. Built into the earth they can spread hundreds of feet underground weaving together nesting grounds, chambers and storage areas. Each Warren belongs to one pod of rabbits, it’s their home and they defend it and multiply within it.
